Day 6

Food Report and Check-In

Here's my food for Day 6:

Breakfast: sausage, sweet potato hash, fresh strawberries.

Lunch: Leftover Basil Avocado Chicken Salad, chopped veggies (no raw broccoli!), green olives

Dinner: Stew made from left over roast beef, vegetable broth, and cut up veggies (cabbage, carrots, celery, and green onions.  I put it all in the crock pot and let it cook for several hours.  The flavor was very good.

Check-In:  Today was stressful on many levels.  It started off having to take my youngest granddaughter on an emergency trip to the podiatrist and she had to have "a procedure" done for double ingrown toenails.  Her reaction to it was near meltdown and it was horrible to see her in such pain.  Chris was the hero of the day, having to hold her and talk her through it.  It was traumatic for all three of us.  There was also the school carnival and tonight it her 9th birthday party sleep-over with 6 girls.  At the carnival there was all kinds of goodies, then we came home to the birthday cake, ice-cream, and popcorn. The smell of popcorn is killer!  Meanwhile the three adults had the leftover beff and veggie stew.  After the day we've had all of us would just like to sit down with a bowl of ice cream and dig in.  But we are staying strong.

Stress is a big trigger for a lot of people.  My daughter mentioned that she wasn't craving so much as reacting to her habitual behavior.  I had to agree.  It's more about a reaction, than a craving. Stress eating is a near unconscious habit.  This Whole30 is helping make us aware of those habits and giving us an opportunity to re-set negative old habits. Today we all had an opportunity to do things differently and look at our old ways and find a better way to handle stress.

Chris decided he's going to journal as a way to relief stress.  He said he's going to write a list of all the things he's going to eat on day 31! (He's kidding go course, I hope!)

Happy to see Day 6 come to an end.  Let's hope Day 7 is more peaceful!
